I admit it: I respond far better to instant gratification than to delayed gratification. Which may be part of why I never managed to establish and maintain a habit of regular exercise.
That may be about to change.
As mentioned here, I’ve generally tended to have a higher blood sugar reading after eating than before—except first thing in the morning. This, I believe, supports the opinion of my doctor and my diabetes educator that my blood sugar problem stems not from lack of insulin production but rather from insulin resistance.
Today was a lunch-test day, when I take a reading, eat lunch, and two hours later take another reading. Taking the educator’s advice I went for a brief walk after lunch but before the retest, and my reading was much lower than before the meal.
That’s what I call instant gratification. I think I just might get the exercise habit this time. Daily walks. Maybe a gym membership. Weight training. Marathons!

Okay, maybe not marathons.
