A Fairbanks man was sentenced to more than 18 years in prison Monday for his role in the death of a world-renowned physicist.
In April, a jury found Byron Frank Geisinger, 47, guilty of of manslaughter and drunken driving. Authorities say Geisinger slammed his full-sized pick-up truck into the back of a sedan rented by Yong-Ki Kim, 74, his wife and son as they were sightseeing along Chena Hot Springs Road last September. Yong-Ki Kim was killed in the accident while his wife and son suffered minor injuries.» Driver gets 18 years in death of physicist
Not mentioned in today’s article is this, which I commented on last fall:
...a driver and front-seat passenger were injured and a 74-year-old man in the back seat was killed—and the driver of the truck that hit them ran into the woods as astonished witnesses looked on.
[...]
The driver claims he left the scene to try to get help, though with other drivers right there having seen the crash, you’d think the best way to get help would be to stay put and flag somebody down.
In other words, that drunkard is probably going away for a long time.
Looks that way.
