When we lived in North Pole, one of my favorite dining experiences (and I had a lot of favorite dining experiences in those days!) was—if we happened to be down that way—to have a buffalo burger at Delta Junction’s Buffalo Center Diner. Then when we were in the process of moving down here to Georgia, I ate a buffalo steak at the steak restaurant in the hotel where we stayed a night in Cheyenne.
But once we got here the only “buffalo” available to eat was buffalo wings. For a while I was able to satisfy my craving for real buffalo by buying buffalo jerky—until that disappeared, like so many things I liked, from Kroger’s shelves.
And then this development about made me switch to canned tuna.
But there came a day when Chris convinced me to try a new restaurant that had just opened in Peachtree City: Smokey Bones. Which as it turned out has buffalo burgers on the menu. I was saved!
Oh, but they also have a delightful smoked beef brisket. And as it happens I’ve been more likely to order that than the burger. Every time we go there I’m faced with the dilemma of which to order.
In the meantime, we had been regular visitors to Ruby Tuesday until they over-Atkinsed their menu and came up with a coleslaw recipe that is gobsmackingly vile. We tolerated these developments as best we could, but the service also got progressively less confidence-inspiring, and it’s been so long since we’ve been back that I can’t remember how long it’s been.
Last week, Chris learned somehow that Ruby Tuesday had made some changes to their menu that she thought I might like. I checked it out online, and discovered this:
Bison Cheeseburger
A lean bison burger with American cheese.
Again I am saved. At least when it comes to the entrée. And the service was actually very good too. I didn’t try the coleslaw—that would be asking for too much.
But when it comes to deciding what to drink, the flavored lemonades have got me on the ropes. Tonight I tried them all (the waitress said I could!) and I still don’t know which I like best.
And to think we ended up going to Ruby Tuesday tonight because we couldn’t find our first choice (dang that explosive economic growth!).
