Fairbanks' Golden Heart Plaza, Live

Click the image to find the controls that will let you pan and zoom (but be courteous -- there may be someone else at the controls already). The camera is located on First Avenue in Fairbanks, across from Golden Heart Park. The default view looks across the fountain plaza and the Chena River, at the area of North Cushman Street seen from a different angle in the News-Miner webcam view.
In June, even though Fairbanks is below the Arctic Circle, the "midnight sun" can be apparent. Official sunrise on June 21 comes just before 3:00 a.m. Click here for "seeing is believing" proof. By contrast, December views show a low-flying sun hidden by buildings during most of the brief time it is above the horizon.

This webcam doesn't appear to have controls; it seems to be mounted near the movable one above, but looks westward along First Avenue toward Cushman Street.
North Cushman Street, Not Quite So Live
Courtesy of Fairbanks Daily News-Miner
This view comes from a webcam in a window on the south end of the News-Miner newsroom, overlooking the parking lot and Terminal Street. On the left is Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and North Cushman Street runs beside it. On the right are buildings such as the former Samson's Hardware, and the Big "I" Bar (still operating, for now). These buildings will be demolished to make way for a new bridge across the Chena River linking to Barnette Street, which is just to the right of the big dark building (Key Bank) across the river with the satellite dish on it. The wide building between the bank and the church in this view is a Springhill Suites hotel, constructed after we moved to Georgia. Cushman Street runs between the bank and the hotel.
UAF, West of Fairbanks
Courtesy of Alaska Climate Research Center
The Alaska Climate Research Center is part of the Geophysical Institute, and this camera is located on the GI building on the west end of the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus, looking southward toward the Alaska Range. The low, wide building mostly to center of left is the Butrovich Building, headquarters of the University of Alaska's statewide administration. I worked there for two years, 1997-99.
This view looks generally northwest toward downtown Anchorage from the Denali Towers office building south of the Chester Creek Greenbelt. When the weather is right you can see Denali (Mt. McKinley) on the horizon just to the right of the downtown high-rises. Anchorage is Alaska's largest city and home to about 40% of the state's people.
Click the "Midtown Anchorage" link to go to Borealis Broadband's webcam page for this view. From there you can navigate to other webcam views around Anchorage, plus two views from McGrath, which lies about 220 miles away in the Alaskan bush.
